Olivia de Havilland: Premiere Leading Lady
Olivia de Havilland premiere leading lady of Hollywood’s Golden Age, and first to became known for her roles as demure ingénues opposite cinema’s most popular male stars. The older sister and professional contemporary of actress Joan Fontaine, de Havilland began her career as a contract star for Warner Bros. This year Olivia celebrated her centennial (100 years old) birthday. We are so happy that she is still with us and is known to be one of the last stars alive from the 1930’s early films. She is still as beautiful today as she was in the photo below. We are proud to provide this section about her here on Classic Movie Favorites.
Olivia de Havilland premiere leading lady is quoted as saying this about her early career:
Playing good girls in the 30’s was difficult, when the fad was to play bad girls. Actually I think playing bad girls is a bore; I have always had more luck with good girl roles because they require more from an actress. ~ brainyquote.com
