Rebecca, 1940, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. This was Hitchcock's
first American film after being signed by David O. Selznick to come
to Hollywood to make films. It is an adaptation of a book by one
by my favorite author's Daphne DuMaurier. It begins as if it was
just a romance between a poor dowdy girl and a wealthy titled gentlemen.
However, it turns out to be something much more. Like in all Hitchcock
films, you are led down a path that turns into something completely
different then you imagined. Unfortunately, Hitchcock did not have
a good relationship with Selznick and he was disappointed by the
results of Rebecca since Selznick made so many changes. Even so,
its still pure Hitchcock and although he didn't get an Oscar for
direction, it is the only Hitchcock film to win an Academy Award
for best picture. |
