The
Citadel , MGM
1938

From the
novel by A. J. Cronin, "The Citadel" is another great Donat
film directed to perfection by King Vidor and co-starring
Rosalind Russell and Ralph Richardson. Donat plays a doctor
who is very interested in his profession and truly wants to
heal the sick. We travel through his life and learn how his
frustrations lead him to give up his principles and become
a doctor only interested in treating the rich. We see his
complete transformation and this moralistic tale allows Donat
to develope the role from one extreme to another.
