Reap the Wild Wind is DeMille's first swashbuckling
sea spectacle. Although he was 60 years old it was lavishly shot
in Technicolor and is truly a technical feat. DeMille had a huge
pool to serve as the Atlantic Ocean to hold his giant squid which
is still convincing. This film offers a rare opportunity to see
John Wayne as a sympathetic, but not very bright love interest
of Paulette Goddard and he performs quite well. Starring: Ray Milland,
Paulette Goddard, John Wayne, Raymond Massey, Robert Preston, Charles
Bickford and a very young Susan Hayward. I have a web site devoted
to Ray
Milland and this is one of my favorite of his films.
