The Crusades was certainly DeMille's own version
of history and because of this, bore little resemblance to historic
fact. This caused the critics to be brutal even though it was a
box office success. Regardless, he had become the master of the
screen epic and of the technique of weaving spectacle, sex, and
inspiration together into a great story. Starring: Loretta
Young, Henry Wilcoxon, C. Aubrey Smith, Katherine DeMille (his
daughter) and Ian Keith.
