Bette Davis filmography

In This Our Life
Warner Brothers, 1942

Based on the novel by Ellen Glasgow this film is a treat for those who like Bette when she is mean and selfish. The story revolves around Stanley Timberlake, a spoiled, nasty daughter who's father has lost all their money and his company to his wife's brother William. Uncle William is infatuated by Stanley and gets her anything she wants including a shiny new car. Stanley's sister is played by Olivia Dehavilland who is married to Dennis Morgan at the film's start. Stanley is about to be married to George Brent, but has just fallen in love with her sister's husband. Stanley then proceeds to steal her sister's husband, ruin her boyfriend's life and, when she has a car accident that kills a child, tries to pin it on Parry Clay, an African American who is training to be a lawyer.

Bette is truly evil and mad in this film which is overdone, but wonderful to see. Directed by John Huston.
