The Mark of Zorro
20th Century Fox, 1940

The story of Zorro, the agile masked avenger who decides to take up the people's cause in disguise is a much filmed and loved adventure.

Zorro is dashing and daring, but his alter ego, Don Diego de Vega is a a perfect fop preferring silks and satins to fighting and swordplay.

Linda plays the pretty Lolita, Quintero's charming niece, "a little flower", " a sweet little dove", who loves the mysterious hero and can't tolerate the fop until she sees that they are one and the same person.

Once again, this is a new version of a silent film starring Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. The cast is well chosen. Basil Rathbone plays the cruel captain Esteban Pasquale to perfection. His swordfights with Power are wonderful to see since Rathbone was the most proficient swordsman in Hollywood at the time.

The cast includes:

  • Tyrone Power .... Don Diego de Vega
  • Linda Darnell .... Lolita Quintero
  • Basil Rathbone .... Captain Esteban Pasquale
  • Gale Sondergaard .... Inez Quintero
  • Eugene Pallette .... Fray Felipe
  • J. Edward Bromberg .... Don Luis Quintero
  • Montagu Love .... Don Alejandro Vega
  • Janet Beecher .... Senora Isabella Vega
  • George Regas .... Sergeant Gonzales
  • Chris-Pin Martin .... The Turnkey
  • Robert Lowery .... Rodrigo
