Notes about these episodes:
When possible, these Ivy episodes are presented with their original commercials included. This is done so the listener can fully appreciate Ivy exactly as it was originally broadcast. No endorsement of these products is intended.

I do what I can to provide the best sound quality for your listening enjoyment. However, some of the episodes I have are not the best quality and may end abruptly. Therefore, since I know you'd want to hear all of the episodes anyway, they are uploaded regardless of their sound quality.

About the Halls Of Ivy

The Halls of Ivy was broadcast on the radio from June 1949 until June 1952, when it went onto television for another two years. The Halls of Ivy follows the daily life of a College President of the fictitious Ivy College and his wife Victoria, a former actress of the British stage.

Each week, on Sunday, I will place a different episode of The Halls of Ivy here, for your listening pleasure. Look below to learn about this week's episode.

Ronald Colman was an avid participant in radio and appeared on many programs besides Ivy. You can hear an example of this below from the Lux Radio Theater

Also, he and Benita were regulars playing themselves, as Jack's next door neighbors on the Jack Benny Program in the late 40's. However, in 1950, Ronnie was approached to do his own radio series based on the life of a college president of the fictitious Ivy College.

Most critics thought that Ivy would be too "intellectual" for the public but they were surprised when it became a hit.  It even won the coveted Peabody Award for excellence in radio broadcasting as well as a Citation of Merit from the Chamber of Commerce.

The program ended with the demise of radio but quickly moved onto television in the spring of 1952 and lasted for two years.

The Colman's on the The Jack Benny Program

The Colman's most prominent role, in radio, before doing The Halls of Ivy, was as Jack Benny's neighbors on the Jack Benny Program.  I am a real fan of Jack Benny and recently I've been listening to Old Time Radio programs on the internet, especially Jack Benny.  I was happily surprised to learn of the Colman's participation in this series. They made many appearances starting on Dec. 9, 1945.

The Colman's, both Ronnie and Benita played themselves as Jack's next door neighbors (they actually lived several blocks away) who did everything they could to avoid Jack.   However, because they had such good manners they just couldn't be rude to Jack so, many of the episodes they're in revolve around avoiding Jack. On one show, Jack asked them over for dinner and they were too nice to refuse, hence the tension. Another favorite is when Jack loses Ronnie's Oscar. They milked it for everything they could having the story extended over many episodes. Its hilarious.

To hear Jack Benny programs, click here, they have many of the episodes with the Colman's.

Also, go to Jack Benny on the Web to learn more about Jack Benny.
