Dames, 1934 was the beginning of a change in Berkeley musicals. It was an attempt to break out of the "backstage" musical format that he had used before. He also attempted to use the numbers to further the story. The most memorable of the numbers in Dames is "I only Have Eyes for You", "Dames" and "Try To See It My Way".
